MEAC Opening Weekend — August 2026

The MEAC begins with several high-visibility tests: Howard in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge, Morgan State at N.C. A&T, NCCU at Texas Southern, and Norfolk State against Winston-Salem State.

National-stage opener

Howard

Howard opens against Alabama A&M in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge, giving the Bison a nationally visible first test before the rest of the conference race develops.

Championship standard

South Carolina State

The Bulldogs remain a central measure of the conference race. Camp attention belongs on line depth, defensive continuity, and whether the offense can control high-pressure games.

Road measuring stick

North Carolina Central

NCCU opens at Texas Southern, a cross-conference road test against a program coming off its first winning season since 2000.

Opening rivalry energy

Morgan State

Morgan State opens at N.C. A&T on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 6:00 PM ET. Cameron Edge enters the opener as the Bears’ starting quarterback.

Cross-conference opener

Norfolk State

Norfolk State opens against Winston-Salem State, giving the Spartans an immediate opportunity to establish offensive identity and weekly consistency.

Delaware State

The Hornets begin August 27 against Stony Brook and host Bowie State in September. Their nonconference slate can show whether offseason development has translated into depth and confidence.

MEAC Editorial Watch — Visibility Must Produce Separation

The NFL setting gives the conference a major platform, but the real value will come from football substance. Watch for quarterback certainty, line play, defensive continuity, and evidence that a challenger can separate from the familiar championship names. Howard at Morgan State on October 24 also keeps a true Beltway rivalry in the season picture.
